Music plays an important part in the life of the school. The majority of boys have instrumental lessons and some learn two instruments. We have a team of 7 visiting instrumental teachers and are able to offer tuition in woodwind, brass and string instruments as well as saxophone, drum-kit, guitar (classical, electric and bass), piano, singing and organ.

As well as making music individually, the following group activities are available:

        • church choir
        • secular choirs (usually arranged by form groups)
        • guitar group
        • mixed instrumental ensemble
        • piano duets
        • woodwind ensembles

We have a strong church choir which sings an anthem during the school church service every Sunday as well as performing on other high profile occasions such as the annual school carol service.

There are regular concerts during the year whcih celebrate the boys' musical achievements. Pupils are prepared and entered for the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

The music department itself is situated in the main school building and consists of a main teaching classroom, a keyboard room and two rehearsal rooms. Boys are given fixed times for daily instrumental music practice.

All boys have class music lessons during which they:

        • perform on xylophones and keyboards
        • sing
        • compose
        • study theory
        • listen to and discuss music of all sorts
