MAIDWELL HALL - Boarding and Day School for Boys aged 8-13

75th Anniversary Old Boys' Day
Sunday 15th June 2008

The 75th Anniversary Old Boys' Day was a great success. The sun shone and about 115 old boys came back to visit their old school with wives, partners and children. In total we had about 250 visitors. The champagne reception in the marquee got everyone in the mood for a very happy day and picnics in the grounds made for a traditional Maidwell occasion with boys from the school joining in with parents and grandparents. In the afternoon there were some guided tours with prefects but most old boys were happy to perambulate around the wilderness, lake and buildings and reminisce. At 3.30pm everyone gathered for tea on the terrace followed by speeches. The choir opened proceedings with two beautifully sung items and then the Chairman, Darby Dennis, introduced our visiting speaker, the Right Reverend John Richardson,  Old Maidwellian, Trustee and ex Bishop of Bedford. John spoke eloquently and amusingly about Oliver Wyatt's time as Headmaster and all were delighted to recall these happy days and the wonderful legacy and vision of our distinguished benefactor. The Headmaster then spoke about the school today and the plans for the future. It was a lovely occasion and it was truly wonderful to have so many old boys here.
