Match Reports

V Wellingborough

Maidwell 154-2

Wellingborough 36-9

Maidwell won this 20 over match by 118 runs

Maidwell Under 10A completely outplayed Wellingborough and would have won by more had I not spread the bowling around. A superb opening partnership of 79 from Tom Henderson and Archie Cleverly set the standard for a very difficult score to achieve for the opposition. Henderson finishing on 52 not out and Cleverly 27 were the main contributions. Our bowling was exemplary with Rory Peppiatt taking 5 wickets for three runs in his 4 over spell, and nearly taking not one but two hat tricks; he missed the second one by the width of a strand of hair. A fantastic start for the team.

V Bedford Prep

Maidwell 160-8

Bedford 134-7

Maidwell won by 26 runs

Another excellent win by the Under 10A saw some exquisite batting from Rory Peppiatt and Tom Henderson after Archie Cleverly was caught out cheaply in the third over. There was also some superb running between the wickets which helped enormously towards our very convincing total of 160 for 8. Bedford never looked capable of matching our score although one boy batted beautifully and looked extremely dangerous for a period of time in the middle part of Bedford's innings. In the end Bedford scrambled to 134 for 7, some 26 runs short of our match winning total. However this was an excellent match and thoroughly enjoyed by the boys and the watching parents.

V Kimbolton

Maidwell 150-4

Kimbolton 55 all out

A crushing victory from the Under 10 A’s continues their excellent form this term. However we did not get away to a great start with Archie Cleverly being bowled out the very first ball of the innings for a diamond duck (no sparkle there - a cricket pun!). From this point onwards there was no looking back as the score accelerated quickly. Sam Holland Bosworth being our top scorer with 40 and also taking 4 wickets when he bowled making him the comprehensive man of the match. I was also very impressed with Lochie Payne who ran superbly between the wickets and caught a superb catch. There was also a fantastic catch by Henry Pegley. The next match is at home to Stamford on Saturday. This will hopefully be our last warm up match before the arrival of Spratton on the following Wednesday. This will be a vital game in our attempt to have an unbeaten term. Please come in your droves to support the boys.

V Stamford

Maidwell 155 for 4

Stamford 55 all out

Maidwell won by 100 runs

Another wonderful victory stretches our unbeaten run to 4 matches. Yet another match that we never looked in danger of losing thanks to a second wicket partnership of over 100 runs. This was held together with a superb 52 from Archie Cleverly who was ably supported by Tom Henderson. Our bowling and fielding were also first rate and we had Stamford in real trouble as they struggled to 15 for 4 in the early overs. This was to be Archie Cleverly's day taking 3 wickets to add to his 52 runs scored earlier and thus collecting the man of the match award. There were also two superb run outs, the first from Henry Pegley and the second from a fantastic throw from William Holborrow. Next up are Spratton.  Bring your aunties, uncles, nephews, cousins, second cousins, friends and pets, the more the merrier. This will be a titanic battle and your school needs your support.

V Swanbourne

Maidwell 106 all out

Swanbourne 46 all out

Maidwell won by 60 runs

Swanbourne were by far the best opposition we have faced this term. Both their opening bowlers played for the county and did a lot of damage to our front line batsmen. Only Tom Henderson offering major resistance, scoring 30 runs before being bowled to a shooter near the end of our innings. We scrambled to 106 all out but feared the worst as this was a below par score from our allotted 20 overs. Our opening two bowlers have been phenomenal this term and today was no exception. Both Sam Holland Bosworth and Rory Peppiatt completed their 4 over spell only conceding 19 runs between them and collecting two wickets each. A monumental effort against a team that possessed two county players. The damage was irreparable at this stage and the heart of the Swanbourne batting line up was ripped out. We went on to win by a margin of 60 runs and complete much easier than expected a victory which leaves us unbeaten so far this term. There is only the Spratton fixture left at this point and this may or may not happen. I will keep you informed of any developments. We all want it to happen though don't we guys? So keep everything crossed!!!!!!!!!!!
