Match Reports

V Swanbourne House

Maidwell 77 all out
Lost by 7 runs
Swanbourne 83 all out

This was a very close match that could have gone either way. Swanbourne won the toss and batted first. Initially our bowling was rather wayward but the introduction of Archie Cleverly slowed down the visitors' run rate and he finished with the commendable figures of 4 for 13. Maidwell's batting was rather hit and miss in every sense! Too many crossbatted shots created problems for ourselves and it took a fine innings of 27 from Ben Clarke to get the total close to Swanbourne's score.

V Beachborough

Maidwell 103 for 7
Maidwell won by 3 wickets
Beachborough  102

This was a fine all round team performance. The visitors batted first and posted the respectable total of 102 in their 25 overs. The pick of the Maidwell bowlers were Sam Holland-Bosworth with 3 for 12 and Archie Cleverly who took 3 for 15. Maidwell batted with a lot more purpose than last week, and led by Tom Henderson, won the match with 7 overs to spare.

V Wellingborough

Maidwell 169 Wellingborough 189

Maidwell lost by 20 runs

Maidwell had to face the formidable total of 190 to win in 25 overs and managed to get to within 20 runs of victory with some excellent batting from Tom Buxton 38 and Charlie Chamberlayne 27 who put on 80 for the first wicket. Although the wickets continued to fall, runs were still being scored and an historic victory was on the cards. Wellingborough though, had enough bowling depth to shut the game out and won a deserved victory. Piers Burgess and Tom Buxton took 2 wickets each in the Wellingborough innings but much of the Maidwell bowling was too wayward to contain the hard hitting Wellingborough batsmen.

V Bilton Grange

Maidwell 147 all out Bilton Grange 106 for 4

DRAW

Maidwell lost the toss and were sent in to bat in this timed game. Playing on a grass pitch for the first time this season, the innings got off to a faltering start; at one point we were 18 for 3. An excellent partnership between Tom Henderson 26, and Rufus Hall 17 not out, arrested the slide and the final total of 147 was a very respectable score to defend. Our bowling was once again, too inconsistent to cause the Bilton batsmen enough problems and on a fast bouncy pitch we bowled too many deliveries outside offstump that allowed the batsmen to leave them alone. The match ground to a draw with Bilton reaching 106 for 4 wickets. Charlie Chamberlayne was the only bowler to consistently trouble the batsmen finishing with 3 for 18.

Rain stopped play.  Match abandoned

V Bedford Prep

Maidwell 78 all out Bedford 79 for 0

The Colts were defeated by a far better Bedford side. Put into bat, Maidwell did'nt really get going with only Tom Buxton and Ben Clarke looking to score runs. Bedford were never troubled and won without losing a wicket. Freddie Allhusen and Toby Duncan bowled tidily and Ben Clare in his first match as a keeper did'nt concede a single bye.

Sadly rained off.

V Great Houghton

Maidwell 144 all out  Great Houghton 169 for 2

Maidwell lost by 25 runs

This was an exciting game of cricket that produced plenty of runs. Maidwell bowled first but didn't really bowl well enough to restrict the visitors to a chaseable total. 169 was 30 too many and sharper fielding would have given us a gettable target. Tom Buxton with 45, and Rufus Hall with 34 batted well and kept the scoreboard moving, but the rest of the batting was disappointing and Maidwell fell 25 runs short of the victory target.

V Akeley Wood

Maidwell 54 all out Akeley Wood 94 for 8

This was a disappointing end to the season as a top of the order batting collapse cost Maidwell any chance of a result in this 20 over match. Akeley Wood were restricted to 94 in a good bowling effort. The batting was poor except for Freddie Allhusen who, with a few lusty blows, was the only player to reach double figures.
