V Stamford
Maidwell 40 Stamford 0
This was a good start to the season having only had a limited number of sessions. On a wet pitch the forwards played some good rugby which generally secured good positions for the backs to capitalize on. Defensively the side were strong and even though the score is rather flattering more hard work is needed to go into the bigger games with a realistic chance of more success. A good day though.

A little bit of a mismatch this one; Bedford were a very strong team who overpowered the Maidwell side. Lack of positional sense and fitness were evident today and, although there was some decent work in the first half, Maidwell soon ran out of steam and struggled in the later stages of the match.

A far better performance this. The back line tackled much better and the tries scored were a combination of strong forward work and some fast hands in the backs. There are still areas to be improved but this was a very pleasing afternoon.

After a good display Maidwell found themselves at the back end of the result. Having taken the lead twice in the match the team lost a little composure after having had a number of penalties given against them for various errors. It was a pity that a double movement at the very end of the match denied them at least a draw which I think would probably have been a fair result on the day. It is however nice to think that the team will have another go at beating this side when they meet again at Maidwell.

V Swanbourne House
Maidwell 20 Swanbourne 20
A good game of rugby saw Maidwell compete well for territory throughout the match. Having taken an early lead the team found themselves a try down at half-time at 15-10. A great effort in the second half meant the honours were shared for what was a really fine game of rugby.

V Spratton
Maidwell 0 Spratton 30
On a very slippery field Maidwell were taught a lesson in how to pass and run with the ball from what appears to be a very good Spratton team. Maidwell competed in the forwards but their back line was lacking any passing skills today. In what was billed as a big contest it became evident that the away team were, by far, superior.

Overall placing - 3rd
This was a better afternoon and the boys played some good rugby. Having had the setback of losing to Bilton the players raised their individual performances for the Spratton match who had hammered Maidwell earlier in the season. A draw was a just result on the day but Maidwell had raised their efforts considerably.
Third place sounds disappointing but, in reality, it marked a change in fortunes and effort levels from the boys. It was a really good afternoon and a well-run tournament once again.

If you were to go back in time a couple of months you would never have thought the score today would have been so tight. Having been hammered earlier in the season the team made an outstanding effort today against a very good Bedford team. The recent tournament left the players in a positive frame of mind and the improvement over the last few matches is very evident. This was the best match of the season to watch it is just a pity they couldn't quite find that extra edge to win it.
