Maidwell vs Swanbourne
Sunday, 16th May, 2010

Swanbourne      6 ½
Maidwell          5 ½

A glorious day at Swanbourne. They have a very good course kept in excellent condition and with interesting holes. The golf itself was match played nip and tuck all the way through. The boys went out in pairs for a shotgun start for the first 6 holes. For the second 6, 1st ranked played 2nd and vice versa. Our boys played very well and honour was more than satisfied to be beaten by only one point.

It was a sunny day at Bilton on their very good course. There was a cold wind which blustered at times. Julian Martin-Smith played very well, as expected. A surprise was Edward Spooner with our second highest score. Our captain, Charlie Fletcher, evidently spent a lot more time during the holidays with CE revision than out on the golf course, though this is possibly a good thing. Hopefully they’ll get a few chances to practise before our next match on Sunday 16th May against Swanbourne House (away).

Maidwell Hall v Bilton Grange
Sunday, 10th May, 2009

A most enjoyable afternoon.  Our team was:

Humphrey FitzRoy Newdegate
William Barrow
Henry Chamberlayne
Julian Martin Smith
James Cleverly
William Playne

Playing on their very fine 9-hole course, scoring on a Stapleford basis, Maidwell won by 198 points to 170. The standard of play was very high indeed.  Often all four tee shots at each hole would have been the envy of many club golfers. Nearly all the boys in both teams scored more than 30 Stapleford points, Julian having the highest score, 40, 7 pars and 2 eagles. Humphrey won the competition for the longest drive, 260 yards straight down the middle of the fairway.

Maidwell Hall v Witham Hall

On a gloriously sunny Sunday morning we hosted a golf match against Witham Hall. It was closely contested with a great atmosphere encouraged by a good crowd of following spectators. Scoring was by Stapleford points and Maidwell drew ahead at the end to win by 138-120. Humphrey Fitzroy Newdegate won the 'closest to the pin' competition. Overall we were perhaps slightly luckier with our bounces off the trees!
